Sizewell C’s Community Fund has awarded grants to nine local organisations through its latest funding round.
The Suffolk Community Foundation – which administers the fund – has handed out £550,000 worth of funding across the projects, bringing total support to £2 million following this latest round. Projects to receive backing are those in the East Suffolk Council area that promote the economic, social or environmental wellbeing of the communities that are most impacted by Sizewell C’s construction and enhance people’s quality of life.
Organisations to receive support include 1379 Leiston Squadron Air Cadets (£21,088) allowing them to buy six kayaks, water safety gear and a trailer; ActivLives (£141,079) to fund activities designed to boost the wellbeing and mental health of older residents, people with a long-term health condition or disability, and people experiencing, or at risk of, social isolation; and Green Light Trust (£14,755) for a joint project with Wardens Trust to pilot a programme of nature-based therapeutic activities for people from Leiston and the surrounding areas.
I Made This has been awarded £89,153 over three years to fund term-time after school stop-motion animation sessions for children in the Leiston area that have autism and other special educational needs; £88,030 will help Leiston & District Swimming Club introduce a new weekly coached master’s group for adults and enhance their coaching offering to members; while £67,033 will help Leiston Town Council run the Live Well Hub which offers support to local people.
The final three organisations to receive backing include Leiston Youth Club (£28,009) which has run for almost 60 years, The Art Station (£86,264) to help it with a two-year programme of community art-based activities in Saxmundham, and Wickham Market Partnership which will look to resurface its three tennis courts with £8,280 and buy equipment to encourage children and young people to take up the sport with an additional £500.
