Group Overview

The Strategic Communications and Engagement Group brings together industry communication leads from projects with planned near-term network infrastructure projects across Suffolk, Norfolk, North Essex and West Cambridgeshire, with the Electricity System Operator and the government.

Key responsibilities include directly engaging with community action groups in East Anglia and nationally, as well as communicating and involving the wider East Anglian community in this transition to net zero, while engaging too with local MPs.

The group includes representatives from:

  • The Department of Energy Security and Net Zero: The government department launched in 2023 to secure the UK’s long-term energy supply serves as faciltator to the group. Please note the contents of the website have been generated by industry and don’t necessarily represent government policy.
  • EDF Renewables: EDF Renewables is developing a new solar energy farm, co-located with battery storage, in Essex, with Longfield Solar Farm set to be able to export or import up to 500MW of electricity.
  • Equinor: Equinor is an international energy company driving towards a low carbon future, with projects it owns and in development in East Anglia, including the Dudgeon and Sheringham Shoal offshore wind farms.
  • National Grid Electricity Transmission: National Grid Electricity Transmission owns and maintains the high voltage electricity network in England and Wales.
  • National Grid Ventures: National Grid Ventures operates across the UK, Europe and US, developing, operating and investing in large-scale clean energy infrastructure.
  • Opergy: Opergy specialises in delivering services and solutions across a host of sectors, including energy, infrastructure and low carbon technology and acts as independent chair for the group through Managing Director, Johnathan Reynolds.
  • RenewableUK: RenewableUK is a renewable energy trade association, working with its 450 plus members to ensure the renewable sector can thrive in the UK.
  • RWE: RWE is a multinational energy company, generating and trading electricity across Europe and beyond, with projects it owns and in development in East Anglia, including a number of offshore wind projects such as Scroby Sands, Galloper, Vanguard East and West, and Boreas.
  • ScottishPower Renewables: ScottishPower Renewables is part of the ScottishPower group of companies that operate in the UK under Iberdrola with a portfolio spanning onshore wind, solar, innovative grid storage and offshore wind.
  • Sizewell C: Sizewell C s a new 3.2-gigawatt nuclear power station being built in Suffolk, one of the first of a new generation of new nuclear plants that could play a major role in decarbonising the UK’s energy
  • Solar Energy UK: Solar Energy UK represents over 400 member companies operating int he UK energy sector and beyond, helping pave the way for solar to deliver 70GW by 2035.
  • SSE: SSE is working to be a leading energy company in a low carbon world. It owns and operates projects in East Anglia, including the Greater Gabbard offshore wind farm, and co-developing the North Falls offshore wind project off Suffolk.
  • Tarchon Energy Interconnector: The Tarchon interconnector project is set to create a direct power link between Germany and Britain, with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners developing the project.
  • Tribus Clean Energy: Tribus Clean Energy has been developing large scale solar and battery projects since 2018, including the 500MW Sunnica Energy Farm spanning three sites across Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.

With representatives from all the major energy-related projects in the East of England, Net Zero East is working to tell the story of the energy transition and bring everyone along on the journey.
