Norwich’s fleet of electric buses is being recognised as a major reason why the city has been able to bring its air quality back within legal limits.
As of 2023, Norwich had a peak of 38.5 micrograms of nitrogen dioxide in a cubic metre of air. This was almost double the UK and EU limit of 20. However, eight of the past 11 month shave seen the city record a level of 16.5 micrograms per cubic metre – so how has it been able to do this?
First Bus has invested £23 million, alongside a £14.7 million government grant, to bring 76 battery powered buses to Norwich, helping save an estimated 3,800 tonnes of CO2 every year.
