It is full steam ahead for Sizewell C in Suffolk, after the government announced a £14.2 billion investment to build the nuclear power station.
As part of the Spending Review, the government vowed to unlock a “golden age” of nuclear, with Sizewell C a centre piece. The investment will see 10,000 jobs created, including 1,500 apprenticeships, while supporting many thousands more across the UK.
It is a project that promises much – not just energy benefits, with the 3.2GW capacity it will have enough to power the equivalent of 6 million homes, but economic ones too.
Contracts worth £330 million have already been signed with local companies, with supply chains throughout the UK set to be boosted – 70% of contracts are expected to go to 3,500 British suppliers, leading to new jobs across construction, welding and hospitality.
