The UK and the Republic of Korea (RoK) have agreed a clean energy partnership which will see them strengthen cooperation on low carbon technologies and civil nuclear, all with the aim of accelerating the transition to net zero.
Specifically, the partnership sees both countries committing to strengthening cooperation on civil nuclear, including large scale, small scale and advanced reactors, decommissioning and waste management, and supply chains. It will also see information and lessons learned on offshore wind shared, supporting the ambitions of both countries, collaboration on barriers to deployment and commercial opportunities being explored through the annual Offshore Wind Policy Dialogue.
Further elements of the partnership are exploring shared priorities for UK-RoK hydrogen collaboration; reinforcing existing cooperation on grids and infrastructure between Korea Electric Power Corporation, Ofgem and the National Grid to enhance technical, policy, R&D and commercial exchange, as well as enhancing R&D cooperation through the UK-RoK Science, Technology and Innovation Partnership and deepening cooperation through other channels including Mission Innovation.
