Kellas Midstream has commenced front end engineering design (FEED) work on its H2NorthEast hydrogen project.
Having been awarded funding through the Net Zero Hydrogen Fund earlier in the year for the project in Teesside, reaching the FEED stage is considered a key milestone, with Kellas joining forces with Worley and Johnson Matthey for this next phase. This will see Worley delivering a full-scope FEED package over the next 15 months. Johnson Matthey is on board as Worley’s FEED technology partner.
Kellas’ aim is to make a final investment decision on H2NorthEsat by 2025. Commercial operations and first hydrogen production would then follow by 2028. This would form the first phase of the project, which involves the design and build of a 355MW hydrogen production facility and distribution system. It will have the potential to then upscale to over 1GW through a second phase by 2030.
