GB Energy steps in to help community facilities cut energy bills

Great British Energy has awarded mayoral authorities a share of £10 million in grant funding, helping them to roll out clean energy projects at the centre of communities.

This includes Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, which is set to benefit from £700,000, rolling out solar at police headquarters, car parks and border canopies, and Greater Lincolnshire, which will use £607,845 to roll out sola rat leisure centres and fire stations.

Across all schemes backed, it is expected they could produce £35 million of lifetime savings on energy bills, while also helping to improve energy security and creating good jobs.

Solar panels on public buildings forms the basis for the vast majority of the projects, but the investment is also backing the installation of batteries for community buildings, allowing them to store renewable energy and use it later, as well as funding electric vehicle chargers.
