UK minister highlights Scotland’s “acute” need for grid capacity

Energy Security and Net Zero Minister, Graham Stuart, has spoken of the importance of transforming the electricity network to ensure Scotland can achieve its ambitions for a cleaner, greener future.

Stuart was speaking at Scottish Renewables’ Grid and Networks Conference, where he also drew on how planning and grid reforms will reduce consumer bills, bring local jobs, support economic growth across Scotland. Such reforms are expected to add around £90bn of business investment over the next decade.

Stuart said: “Nowhere is the need for grid capacity more acute than in Scotland. Scotland is synonymous with renewable energy but there can be no transition without transmission, and our plan to rewire the network will allow us to unlock all of that potential and bring enormous benefits back to Scotland.”
