UK and Germany unveil hydrogen link-up

The UK and Germany have signed an agreement through which they will bid to accelerate the development of an international hydrogen industry.

Signing a Joint Declaration of Intent, both countries have agreed to five pillars of collaboration, including accelerating the deployment of hydrogen projects for industry and consumers, as well as establishing international leadership on hydrogen markets, setting safety and regulations to aid trade.

They have also committed to collaborate on research and innovation on hydrogen, from production through to end use; to promote trade for hydrogen, as well as related goods, technologies and services; and to carry out joint market analysis, supporting planning and investment by government and industry.

The belief is that not only will the agreement help to push forward the growth of an international hydrogen industry, but it will also support the drive to net zero by 2050, as well as the respective energy securities of both the UK and Germany.
