National Grid has announced a digital innovation project under which electricity network data is shared with local authorities is being trialled in the West Midlands.
The idea is that the Planning Regional Infrastructure in a Digital Environment (PRIDE) project will allow local authorities to plan investment in energy, transport, heating and housing more effectively by bringing together datasets from a range of sources on a single data platform. This will include information about factors such as electrical capacity, helping local authorities as they develop Local Area Energy Plans, ensuring that they can target investment more effectively.
Through this, National Grid will be able to obtain data from local authorities on their net zero ambitions and incorporate it into its own future network planning. This will ensure that the network is then ready ahead of need.
The trial is expected to run until March 2024.
