UKPN looks to speed up rollout of EV charging hubs

UK Power Networks (UKPN) has launched what it calls a new “Insider’s Guide” to the process of designing and installing new Electric Vehicle (EV) chargepoint hubs.

Recognising that it can be a complex project, UKPN outlined how each year it receives as many as 100 applications from customers that want to connect to an EV charging hub site. Some of these can require 3MVA of power which is equivalent to powering over 2,000 homes. In the new guide, it sets out the different consents needed and how the connection process can be streamlined and accelerated.

The guide takes readers through four common scenarios in a bid to help them relate the information to their own situation and can be read here.

Neil Madgwick, Head of Connections Service Delivery, said: “Having the correct access and licensing arrangements can dramatically speed up the connections process, enabling sites to be up and running in weeks rather than months.”
