The government has kicked off a consultation on the UK pursuing a process of hydrogen blending, as it looks to accelerate the creation of a new hydrogen industry.
Views are being sought from industry and consumer groups on the potential for increasing the amount of hydrogen used within the UK’s gas network to fuel homes and businesses. The thinking behind it is that it could help to cut emissions, strengthen energy security, while also creating new skilled jobs. Proposals could see the volume of hydrogen within the network rise as high as 20% overtime, up from 0.1% today.
The consultation will run until 11:59PM on 27 October, with the views shared and advice from the Health and Safety Executive then helping to inform next steps on the use of hydrogen and whether or not the government moves forwards with “blending”.
