A further £170mn of previously allocated funding has now been confirmed for the development of Sizewell C.
The government explained that the funding will help prepare the Sizewell C site for future construction. It will also be used to procure key components from the project’s supply chain and help expand its workforce. The 3.2GW project is expected to support 10,000 jobs nationwide when at the peak of construction, while its supply chain plans are set to see 70% of the value of construction contracts go the UK businesses.
The announcement follows the launch of Great British Nuclear (GBN), which is set to oversee an expansion of nuclear power in the UK. As part of its remit, GBN will support large-scale projects such as Sizewell C and Hinkley Point C.
