First Hydrogen hails “unbeatable range” of hydrogen vehicle

First Hydrogen has welcomed a “positive report” from Rivus on the performance of its hydrogen fuel-cell powered vehicle (FCEV).

Rivus trialled First Hydrogen’s FCEV over the course of four weeks, during which it covered more than 700 miles. Rivus engineers tested the vehicle on diverse routes, including urban city centre driving, extra urban routes including both town centres and higher speed roads, and combined routes, meaning a blend of low-speed city centre roads, higher speed roads and motorways. Rivus also tested it both empty and loaded to 90% of its maximum weight capacity.

Whereas modern electric light commercial vehicles have ranges of up to 240km, Rivus found First Hydrogen’s FCEV to be capable of “easily” double. It was found to not be heavily impacted by the speed or the payload. It was also able to perform well under different load cycles compared to electric light commercial vehicles, which in contrast can see reductions in range of around 10%.
