SSE Renewables is set to commence work on what will be one of the UK’s biggest battery energy storage systems (BESS).
It has taken a Final Investment Decision (FID) to move forward with the 320MW/640MWh Monk Fryston BESS, with construction now set to kick off in the coming months. The project will be situated next to National Grid’s substation in Monk Fryston. This will mean it can directly connect to the existing transmission network, without the need for any additional grid infrastructure.
This is now SSE Renewables’ third BESS development to reach a final investment decision, following on from a 50MW project in Salisbury and 150MW project in Ferrybridge.
